This research project presents our global network as a large-scale technosocial infrastructure of knowledge production that manifests distributed agency and cognition. In this sense, our planet becomes a hybrid symbiont of integrated organic and artificial communication networks, and emerges as a global cyborg life form. In this research I draw on the works of Karin Knorr Cetina (epistemic machinery), Lynn Margulis (symbiogenesis), Fritjof Kapra (systems view of life), George Ellis (complex systems) and Alessandro Vespignani (complex networks).

This research project presents a complementarity analysis of the knowledge discovery process (KDD) in Business Intelligence and the theories of neofunctionalism and complex interdependence in International Relations, making possible for an institutional model for the knowledge production. In this research I draw on the works of Ernst Haas, Joseph Nye and Robert Keohane.
